A handful of quality museums await those with an interest in Estonian culture and history in Tallinn. Amongst the most notable is the Estonian Open Air Museum, where an outstanding collection of historic buildings are to be found, many of which date back as far as the 18th century.

Here you can expect to see everything from wooden barns to windmills, along with many traditional festivals.

Lying in the very heart of Tallinn, the Great Guild Hall is home to an interesting Museum of History, with artefacts and antiquities from over 150 years ago, while the Maarjamäe Palace also contains a further Estonian History Museum.

This Gothic-style palace is worth visiting for the architecture alone and is known for its displays relating to the Estonian Republic and the War for Independence.




Other popular cultural highlights in Tallinn include the Niguliste Museum and Concert Hall, which is situated within the 13th-century Gothic-style church and boasts a rather unusual collection of Baroque chandeliers.

Another popular option is the Museum of Estonian Architecture, which stands in a historic Rotermann Salt Storage structure. This large exhibition features a permanent collection in the main basement area, and further temporary displays on the upper two floors, along with a gallery area.
